Discovery GO is a premium video streaming service allowing deeper access to your favourite factual programs, all at your convenience with on-demand viewing, livestreaming, and programs in 4K for the ultimate viewing experience. Discovery GO is a unique 5-in-1 service offering all your favourite shows from Discovery, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, Discovery Science, and Discovery Velocity. All of this at no additional cost for Discovery channel subscribers of participating TV service providers..

Who is Discovery GO for?

Discovery GO is for everybody who loves amazing TV and has a subscription to at least one Discovery channel with a participating television service provider. Your access to Discovery GO programs is linked to your TV subscription. You will be able to watch programming for all channels on Discovery GO that are part of your TV package.

How do I subscribe to Discovery GO?

It’s easy! Currently, Discovery GO is provided to Bell FIBE, Bell Satellite TV, Bell Aliant, Eastlink, Rogers, Telus, Cogeco, Shaw Cable, and Shaw Direct subscribers, with more continually joining.

If you subscribe to any or all of the following channels through your TV cable package, Discovery GO is free with your subscription:

Where do I get Discovery GO?

Discovery GO is available for download in the App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), and Samsung SmartHub on Samsung SmartTVs, or you can visit Discovery.ca/Discovery-GO for more information on web access. Once you have downloaded the Discovery GO App or have gone to Discovery.ca, select “Sign In” and then select your TV service provider and follow the login steps.

Content from Discovery GO and the associated channels is also available on set top box and other platforms provided by participating service providers.

My television provider is not listed, what can I do to get Discovery GO offered?

Currently, Discovery GO is provided to Bell FIBE, Bell Satellite TV, Bell Aliant, Eastlink, Rogers, Telus, Cogeco, Northern Tel, Cable Cable, Northern Tel, Source Cable,Tbaytel, Gosfield North, CCAP, Shaw Cable, and Shaw Direct subscribers, though it is available to all TV service providers. What type of programs can I watch on Discovery Go?

The extensive catalogue of programs available on Discovery GO includes current favourites for live and catch-up viewing, Discovery GO Exclusives, and hundreds of episodes of Discovery networks’ classic shows. New shows will be added frequently, so there is always something new to check out!

Can I find out what shows are available to watch before I subscribe?

Yes – You don’t need a subscription to browse or search the full Discovery GO catalogue. Visit Discovery.ca/Discovery-GO or download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

How do I sign in to Discovery GO?

You can sign in to the Discovery GO app by either clicking on any video that has a lock on it, or by clicking on the “hamburger” menu within the app and selecting the “Sign in” option under “Settings”. Select your service provider, enter your credentials, and you are all set.

I’ve already signed-in successfully, and now I am being asked to sign-in again. Why?

You may be asked to sign in again if:

  1. you have signed out. You do not need to sign out when not watching programs.
  2. there is a problem at the server side that is unable to confirm your subscription. Please try again later as the problem is likely in the process of being resolved. If you continue to have problems, please contact us at DiscoveryGo@bellmedia.ca
  3. you are logging on with a new device
  4. you have deleted the app and reinstalled, or have made a software update
  5. your television service provider requires you to sign in periodically for security reasons.

What is 4K/UHD?

Ultra High Definition (UHD) or 4K refers to a display device (like the Samsung 4K UHD televisions) or its content having horizontal resolution of 4,000 pixels, or four times the standard HD resolution. It’s the next evolution in television viewing, the way HD was a decade ago.

I have a 4K/UHD TV. When will content be available, and how can I see it?

Discovery GO now offers programs in 4K for the ultimate viewing experience. If you have a Samsung SUHD or UHD 2015 TV, please look for the 4K/UHD flag indicating the which are 4K programs.

Is Discovery GO different from the Discovery app that is currently available?

Yes. This new product offers many more hours of content, including live viewing of the channels as they appear on broadcast television, along with featured programs in 4K, and programs exclusively available on Discovery GO.

This is all available at no additional cost to users who have a subscription to at least one of the channels included. The more Discovery channels you subscribe to within your TV package, the more content is available to view in Discovery GO.

Why is Discovery GO only available with a TV subscription?

Is there a minimum TV subscription to qualify for the Discovery GO option?

You need to be subscribed, at minimum, to one of the Discovery channels with a participating service provider to be able to unlock full episodes within the Discovery GO app for the channel you are subscribed to. There will however be a select few shows to view without a subscription to sample the programming, available on the Discovery GO app and on the web.

Video clips like Discovery GO exclusives, behind-the-scenes, and trailers are available without a subscription.

Your complete access to Discovery GO programs is linked to your TV subscription. You will be able to watch programming for all channels on Discovery GO that are part of your TV package.

I don’t subscribe to a television service, but have Internet through a participating provider. Can I subscribe to Discovery GO?

Are there commercials in Discovery GO?

Yes, there are short advertisements on Discovery GO.

Can I watch programs on Discovery GO with closed-captioning? Described Video?

Discovery GO programs are offered with closed captioning on the set top box of participating television providers. Closed captioning on the mobile and web platforms will be coming soon.

Described Video is not available for programs on Discovery GO.

Can I watch programs on Discovery GO in different languages?

Discovery GO programming is available in English only.

Which devices does Discovery GO support?

Discovery GO supports the following:

Discovery GO can be used anywhere in Canada on your mobile device or computer. Discovery GO is not available for use outside Canada.

How do you search for shows on Discovery GO?

Why is there so much content in my “Watch History” section? Will this interfere with or slow down the product in any way?

Discovery GO offers a “Watch History” feature, which allows users to easily see the programs they have recently watched. The number of items in this section will not interfere with your Discovery GO experience in any way.

Does Discovery GO have parental controls?

No, Discovery GO does not have parental controls, but as with the content on Discovery’s family of channels, the content for Discovery networks is generally family friendly and educational.

Technical - General

Why am I getting a “video playback error” on my device?

This message will be displayed when you try to watch Discovery GO video content on iOS or Android devices that do not have an official release of the OS (operating system) software. Discovery GO only supports official releases. “Jailbroken” devices are not supported.

Will I have the option to select video quality so I can ensure I don’t go over my monthly Internet bandwidth allocation?

No, Discovery GO was designed for the best TV watching experience possible. It automatically detects your connection speed and sends you the highest quality video stream your connection can support. If you have concerns about video streaming consuming your Internet bandwidth allocation, you will soon have the option to use your set-top box.

Does Discovery GO require subscribers to purchase any additional equipment?

Discovery GO will be available as a free app on most iOS and Android devices, computers, and On Demand via your set-top box.

Will streaming content on Discovery GO use my cellular data plan?

Use of the Discovery GO app on your mobile device via Wi-Fi will count against your Internet data plan when used at home, but not your cellular data plan. If you are using a free Wi-Fi network outside the home, the service will not impact your home Internet data plan or cellular data plan. If you stream content using cellular data, it will count towards your mobile data plan.

Will streaming content on Discovery GO consume my monthly Internet bandwidth allocation?

Watching Discovery GO on any device connected to the Internet will consume bandwidth, similar to other streaming services. If you have concerns about video streaming consuming your Internet bandwidth, you can also watch Discovery GO on your set-top box.

How much bandwidth will I use while streaming video on Discovery GO?

It depends a lot on the device you are using to access Discovery GO. If on a mobile device, streaming video can generally use between 0.2 and 0.9 GB per hour. On Connected devices such as Samsung SmartTVs, the HD streaming rates can be between 0.9GB to 2.0 GB per hour and this can go up to 7.2 GB per hour for 4K (UHD) video.

Will Discovery GO use my personal information/data?

Discovery GO will never compromise or share personal information received from our customers. Any tracking for measurement purposes is done at an aggregate level and not at an individual one.

What are the system requirements to access Discovery GO from my computer?

For the best video viewing experience you should have a high speed Internet connection. The speed of your connection will determine the quality of the video, and how quickly your episode will begin playing on your computer.

If you are a Windows user, Discovery GO requires you to have a least Windows XP with Service Pack 2. If you are a Mac user, you must have Mac OS 10.6 or better.

Discovery GO requires the Adobe® Flash® Player to stream video content. If you do not have the proper version of the Adobe® Flash® Player installed on your computer you will be required to update it before being able to sign in or watch any video.

Do I need to disable my anti-virus software or any firewalls in order to access Discovery GO on my computer?

Discovery GO operates using commonly accessible web protocols (HTTP, HTTPS) on standard ports for which most firewalls will allow access. If you have custom security in place, it may affect the ability of Discovery GO to properly function. If you have installed a firewall at home, simply accept the request from your firewall asking if it’s okay to access Discovery GO. To make Discovery GO an exception to your computer’s firewall, go to your Internet service provider’s online Help section and follow the instructions. For firewalls at work, you will need to contact your company’s Information Technology department.

Do I need to adjust any web browser security settings on my computer to watch Discovery GO?

When you log in to Discovery GO, you are doing so with your TV Service Provider username and password, which we will never see. As a result, to watch Discovery GO, your browser must enable "third-party cookies," and must have the ability to use secure connections. Other than that, standard browser settings will work fine. Is special software needed to watch Discovery GO on a computer?

Special software is not required, just your preferred Web browser and the Adobe® Flash® Player. Click here to install the latest Adobe® Flash® Player.

Do I need a specific web browser to access Discovery GO?

Yes you do. Discovery GO requires third-party cookies in order to confirm your subscription through a third-party service. Discovery GO does not have access to your username and password that is shared with the TV service provider. The information stored in this third-party cookie is a unique identifier that is used by Discovery GO to communicate with this third-party authentication system.

Can I set video quality settings on a per-device basis?

No, Discovery GO optimizes video quality based on your device and the speed of your Internet connection so you can enjoy your show in the best quality available.

Troubleshooting

I’m unable to access the sign-in page. What should I do?

On the website, the sign-in page is available by clicking the “Sign In” button at the top right of the page. In the app, it is accessed through the menu at the top left of the screen. If you continue to experience difficulty, most errors can be cleared by closing all browser windows on the web, or hard-closing the app and then re-starting it. To hard-close the app on an iOS device, press the Home button twice, then swipe upwards on the app to close it. On Android, use the Android menu button on the bottom of the screen and swipe the app away to close it.

I’m unable to download or install the application. What should I do?

The app is available through the Canadian Google Play store or the Canadian Apple App Store. Make sure you are in the Canadian version of the stores and you don’t have any controls set up on your account that restrict access to apps with content meant for mature audiences. If you are still having difficulty with downloading the app, please contact Google or Apple Help Info for further assistance.

I’m unable to access the website. What should I do?

Check that your browser has a working Internet connection by browsing a website that you frequently use. If you are able to visit other websites but not Discovery GO, check that you have the correct address (Discovery.ca/Discovery-GO). If the site is temporarily unavailable, please check back later, or contact DiscoveryGO@bellmedia.ca.

The player functions aren’t working. What should I do?

You can try refreshing your browser, or if in an app, hard-close the app and try again. If it still doesn’t work, contact DiscoveryGO@bellmedia.ca.

Some of the artwork isn’t appearing on the player. What should I do?

The video should still play even if the artwork isn’t displayed. However, the absence of artwork could indicate a problem with your Internet connection that will also prevent video from playing.

When I try to watch a program, the video keeps skipping, stopping, or giving me an error message. Why is this happening?

All Discovery GO videos are tested before they’re released. The most common cause of skipping in video is an issue with your Internet connection. However, if you have watched multiple videos and only experienced problems with one, please contact DiscoveryGO@bellmedia.ca. If you get an error message while watching Discovery GO, please report it to us, providing as much information as possible so that we can resolve the problem.

I’ve downloaded the app but it won’t open or it keeps crashing. What should I do?

The app may not be installed correctly. Please uninstall the app completely, then install it again. If you continue to experience difficulty, please contact DiscoveryGO@bellmedia.ca.
